OneLinerImage: Haemonchus - Haemonchus is a nematode. Most nematodes are tiny soil-dwelling worms that feed on bacteria. Some feed on plants. Some are parasites of man and other animals. Early in its life Haemonchus lives in the soil feeding on bacteria. Then, when ingested by a sheep or other ruminant, it develops into a parasite that feeds on host blood. The blood can be seen in the worm?s gut which winds around the developing eggs. The striped red and white pattern accounts for the name barber pole worm.
